USDA Senior Advisor Robert Bonnie to Speak about Longleaf Pine Restoration Tues. Jan. 31 st

On Tuesday, January 31 st, NCSAF will host a luncheon with Robert Bonnie, Secretary Vilsack’s Senior Advisor for Environment and Climate. The luncheon will begin at 11:45 in the Secretary’s Dining Room of the Whitten Building. Robert will be discussing USDA’s role in the longleaf pine restoration effort, particularly the new partnerships forged among the different Departments of the Executive branch.

Lunch is $20, but scholarships are available to those that can’t swing the fee after the holidays. Come start eating at 11:30, NCSAF business starts with our new chair Ted Beauvais presiding at 11:45, and Robert’s presentation will begin at 12:00.

Robert Bonnie – USDA Senior Advisor for Environment and Climate

Robert Bonnie is USDA’s Senior Advisor for Environment and Climate—a position established to coordinate all things natural resources in USDA. He brings to this position, 14 years of experience at the Environmental Defense Fund where he served as Vice-President for Land Conservation and Wildlife. .

At EDF, Robert focused on the development of conservation incentives that reward farmers and forest owners for land stewardship. He also helped to establish the Center for Conservation Incentives and has been extensively involved in the development of the Safe Harbor program under the Endangered Species Act as well as conservation programs under the 2008 Farm Bill.

A Harvard graduate, Bonnie holds a Master's degree in forestry from Duke's Nicholas School of the Environment. He grew up on a farm in Kentucky and now lives in Virginia.
